249 Old Yonge - $3,500,000

Toronto Central

Exquisite custom Victorian on unparallel and luxuriously appointed 6,000+ sq. ft. Dramatic old world kitchen. Lavish master retreat. Walk-out lower level with wet steam spa, exercise room & media room. 7 fireplaces, elevator, cast iron stacks & gorgeous gardens.

The staircase is hidden behind a faux kitchen pantry located in the butler's pantry. Push the door, and the staircase, a narrow, curving surprise that links the main floor with the second, leads directly into the couple's luxurious master bedroom where more Old World touches are richly on display.

These include a gas fireplace, one of seven in the house, that supplier Fireplace Concepts crafted to look as if it were a wood-burner plucked from a French chateau. The windows are made of leaded water glass. The idea was to give the home, while only five years old, a historic feel, as shown by the addition of transoms over some of the upper-floor doorways, a feature usually seen in Victorian houses. New custom cabinetry in the kitchen, created by the Tall Guys in Bowmanville, Ont., also looks antique, thanks to an aged finish.

All-wood kitchen, painted a warm tone of yellow, and every door is like a piece of furniture with its own frame. Nothing is pre-fabricated. The antique details complement the overall design of the house.

The floors are made of merbau, a dark tropical wood. Austrian crystal chandelier above the kitchen's central island, which is topped with a cat's-eye-coloured slab of granite.

The house also has such contemporary amenities as a private elevator that connects all four floors, an above-ground pool in the backyard and, in the master en suite, a large walk-in shower with an enormous overhead raindrop faucet.
