Retaining Wall Installation
Behind every clean retaining wall face is a system designed to hold back soil and water for decades. Compacted base, properly sized footings, drainage gravel and pipe behind the wall, geogrid reinforcement on taller installations, batter angled to resist forward pressure. The decorative face is the easy part.
Done well, retaining walls open up usable level space on sloped lots, frame planting beds with built-in seating, and create the terraced architecture that makes a backyard feel composed. Done badly, they bow forward, crack, and fail. We build them properly.
Materials
Four families of wall material, each with its own structural and aesthetic strengths:
Armour stone and quarried natural stone walls. Heavy, hand-set pieces that age into the landscape. Unmatched for rustic and naturalistic settings, and remarkably long-lived — the kind of wall that looks better twenty years on than the day it was built.
Traditional brick walls that complement classic and heritage-style homes. Strong, low-maintenance, and rich in character. Best in shorter wall heights where the brick can do its visual work without needing structural concrete behind it.
Poured or formed concrete walls, often with stone or brick veneer applied to the face. The strongest of the four options for taller installations or significant grade changes. Sleek and modern when left exposed; flexible when veneered.
Segmental concrete blocks engineered specifically for retaining wall systems. Modular, fast to install, and structurally proven — with batter, interlock, and geogrid options sized for taller walls. The best value-to-performance ratio of the four for most residential projects.
Retaining walls do best when they are part of the full landscape design — not just an engineering response to a slope. We design the terracing, planting beds, lighting, and seating together so the wall becomes part of the composition, not just a barrier.
The Process
A clear process so you always know what is happening on your project.

On-site assessment of grade, soil type, drainage, and existing structures. We design the wall to solve the engineering problem and look right doing it — height, batter, and material chosen for the conditions.

Real samples in your hand. We walk through stone, brick, concrete, and block options against the wall’s height, the property’s aesthetic, and what the wall needs to do structurally over its lifetime.

Excavation, compacted aggregate base, drainage pipe and gravel behind the wall, geogrid reinforcement where required. The structural work that decides whether the wall holds true for forty years or starts leaning in year five.

Cap stones, planting bed backfill, lighting integration, and lawn edge resolution. A walkthrough together to confirm structural integrity and aesthetic match every detail you expected.
